I am the writing instructor at Howrey, a DC based international law firm. My job involves helping our over 700 attorneys write better through seminars and coaching. Before joining Howrey in 2006, I was in academia, most recently as the director of the writing center at Colgate University, where I also taught in the department of writing and rhetoric. I am also a freelance writer. For a list of my recent publications, click here.
I have a PhD in English Language and Literature, specializing in 20th century dramatic literature. My dissertation was a family systems approach to disability in five plays from the American stage: The Glass Menagerie (Tennessee Williams), Long Day's Journey Into Night (Eugene O'Neill), Painting Churches (Tina Howe), Sticks and Bones (David Rabe), and Buried Child (Sam Shepard).
In addition, I am also a serious runner (hence the genesis of this blog). I have been running since I was 13 years old, including competitively in high school and college, where I ran the 400m. I now compete in road races. I was also a head high school track coach for ten years at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland, where I coached several All-Americans and state champions on both the team and individual level.
I began this blog because it seemed to be a natural progression for two of my biggest passions: running and writing. For more information on this blog, click here or on the "About This Blog" link.
